Thermodynamic and experimental study of Ti-Ag-Cu alloys

چکیده
Phase equilibria in the ternary Ti-Ag-Cu system have been studied thermodynamically and experimentally at various temperatures. The thermodynamic analysis was performed by combining the most recent data on the binary Ag-Cu, Ti-Ag and Ti-Cu systems and experimental information obtained by the diffusion couple technique. The eutectic and three noneutectic binary Ag-Cu alloys were melted and annealed in evacuated Ti ampoules at temperatures of 900, 950 and 1000 °C for various times and subsequently quenched in water. Both the calculations and the experimental results confirm that in the ternary system there is a miscibility gap, which divides the liquid phase into solutions of low and high Ti content. Furthermore, no ternary compounds were found. Several isothermal sections and the activity of titanium as a function of the copper-tosilver ratio and temperature are presented.

Thermodynamic modelling of the Ag-Cu-Ti ternary system
Ag-Cu-Ti system is important for brazing applications and mainly for ceramic joining. This system is characterized by numerous intermetallics in the Cu-Ti binary and the existence of a miscibility gap in the liquid phase. For applications, the knowledge of phase equilibria, invariant reactions in the temperature range of interest and thermodynamic activity values (mainly of Ti) are important. T...

In this study, experimental Ti-Ag alloys (5, 10, and 20 mass% Ag) and Ti-Cu alloys (2, 5, and 10 mass% Cu) were made in an argon-arc melting furnace. The alloys were cast into magnesia molds using an argon gas-pressure dental casting machine, and the mechanical properties and microstructures of the castings were investigated. As the concentration of silver or copper in the alloys increased, the...
متن کاملCu-Au, Ag-Au, Cu-Ag, and Ni-Au intermetallics: First-principles study of temperature-composition phase diagrams and structures
The classic metallurgical systems—noble-metal alloys—that have formed the benchmark for various alloy theories are revisited. First-principles fully relaxed general-potential linearized augmented plane-wave ~LAPW! total energies of a few ordered structures are used as input to a mixed-space cluster expansion calculation to study the phase stability, thermodynamic properties, and bond lengths in...
متن کاملThermodynamic pro erties of metastable Ag-Cu alloys
The enthalpies of formation of metastable fee Ag-Cu solid solutions, produced by ball milling of elemental powders, were determined by differential scanning calorimetry. Experimental thermodynamic data for these metastable alloys and for the equilibrium phases are compared with both calculation of phase diagrams (CALPHAD) and atomistic simulation predictions. The atomistic simulations were perf...
متن کاملLow-Temperature Interface Reaction between Titanium and the Eutectic Silver-Copper Brazing Alloy
Reaction zones formed at 790 °C between solid titanium and liquid Ag-Cu eutectic alloys (pure and Ti-saturated) have been characterized. When pure Ag-Cu eutectic alloy with 40 at.% Cu is used, the interface reaction layer sequence is: αTi / Ti2Cu / TiCu / Ti3Cu4 / TiCu4 / L. Because of the fast dissolution rate of Ti in the alloy, the reaction zone remains very thin (3-6 μm) whatever the reacti...
